Club Sports Field Manager

Reports to:

  • Club Sports Turf Graduate Assistant
  • Club Sports Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for enforcing departmental and university policies and procedures in all matters pertaining to UConn Recreation.
  • Support an environment that encourages, values, and delivers outstanding customer service.
  • Managing the grass/playing area located at Depot Field
  • Mowing
  • Trimming
  • Painting Fields
  • Fertilizer applications
  • Pesticide applications
  • Core cultivation
  • Monitor irrigation needs
  • Topdressing
  • Overseeding grass/Soil Sampling and Consulting
  • Attend any training sessions and staff meetings if needed
  • Complete other duties and special projects as needed

Other Job Requirements

  • Hours vary by season. General working months are August-December and March-May.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate familiarity and/or interest in club sports/recreation field
  • Demonstrate knowledge of field management and working turf equipment
  • Must have an ability to work independently
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Ability to complete tasks with high quality and minimal supervision
  • Detail orientated, capacity to multi-task and adhere to deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in field management
  • Pursuing or completing a degree in or related to turf management
  • Certifications for chemical applications
  • Ability to review, understand and follow field layout diagrams for painting and mowing

Club Sports Manager

Reports to:

  • Club Sports Intern
  • Club Sports Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • General Duties:
    • Responsible for enforcing departmental and university policies and procedures in all matters pertaining to UConn Recreation.
    • Support an environment that encourages, values, and delivers outstanding customer service.
  • Office/Administrative Functions
    • Maintain regular weekly office hours
    • Assist Intern with promotional materials for Club Sports events and verify/review promotional materials for teams
    • Answer phone calls and respond to emails as advised by the Professional Staff about the Club Sports Program.
    • Administer, organize, and maintain club sports program documentation/database records through IMLeagues
      • Documentation includes but is not limited to: Semester Status Reports, Team Budgets and Financial Reports, Team Inventory Reports, Roster, waivers and medical information
  • Team Communication and Support
    • Attend club sports practices on campus & assist teams as assigned with equipment, monitoring requirements, eligibility waivers, and deadlines
  • Facility Monitoring and Management
    • Supervise and manage home club games
    • Enforce rules and regulations related to facility use and relevant general University policies
    • Complete facility safety checks
    • Responsible for opening, closing and clean-up of the facility.
    • Responsible for the set-up and takedown of equipment
    • Provide support with the upkeep and maintenance of fields and facilities by providing assistance to Professional Staff
  • General Manager Functions
    • Have a full knowledge of the Club Sports Manager Handbook
    • Obtain or have general knowledge of specific sport rules
    • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and trainings
    • Complete applicable reports and forms
    • Expected to be available to work the following Recreation events: Involvement Fair, Open Houses, Club Sports Officer Trainings, Road Races, Oozeball, and Awards/Receptions.
    • Other duties as assigned

Other Job Requirements:

  • Schedule will vary. Weekend and evening work required.  Must be able to work late at night and during inclement weather situations. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate familiarity and/or interest in club sports/recreation field
  • Demonstrate familiarity with Microsoft Office including Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Must have an ability to work independently
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Obtain/maintain CPR/AED & First Aid certifications
  • Ability to complete tasks with high quality and minimal supervision
  • Capacity to multi-task and adhere to deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with Club Sports or in the field of Recreation
  • Detail orientated and highly creative
