Required Pre-Departure Meeting: Wednesday, September 21st, 6:00-8:30 in Student Union Room 104

Required Post Trip Meeting: Thursday, October 13, 6:00 – 8:30 (Location to be announced)

PURPOSE: The C2 retreat program is designed to connect participants to nature, to others and to themselves through play, outdoor adventure challenges, and a variety of reflective activities. The goal is to provide students with a pathway to experience greater joy, mindfulness and skill as they meet the challenges of college life.

PRE-DEPARTURE ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS: Participants are required to attend Pre-Trip Orientation meeting: Thursday, September 22nd from 6:00-8:30. Location of meeting and supplementary information including gear list will be sent with confirmation of registration materials. This critical meeting marks the beginning of the retreat experience, and will include a wellness self-assessment, goal setting, group activities and review of logistics and supplies.

RETREAT ACTIVITIES:  Mohawk State Forest in Charlemont, MA in the Berkshires will serve as base camp. The main activities of the retreat will include:

  • Hiking in the beautiful Berkshires
  • White Water Rafting with Zoar Outdoor Adventures along the Deerfield River
  • Yoga, Meditation & Reflection
  • Campfires and Storytelling
  • Teambuilding initiatives
  • Journaling activities
  • Digital Detox – This will be a technology-free nature experience – for many this may be the most difficult and rewarding challenge, but is designed for foster increased connection and mindfulness.

POST-TRIP MEETING: Participants are required to attend post-trip meeting that will involve self-assessment and closing activities, developing a wellness plan for the semester, recognition and participation awards, and slide show.

PARTICIPANTS:  Enrollment in this pilot program is limited to 20 participants. Participants should be undergraduate students registered at Storrs campus who are willing and available to complete all elements of the program, including pre-departure meeting.

Program design and facilitation is a collaboration between The Office of Wellness and Prevention, Counseling and Mental Health Services, The Four Arrows Challenge Course (UConn Leadership Office) and Outdoor Programs (UConn Recreation).
