Staff

Reports to: Facility Operations Manager, Coordinator – Operations

Basic Function: Facility monitors are responsible for enforcing policies regarding the use of the Student Recreation facility.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for enforcing departmental and university policies and procedures in all matters pertaining to the
  • Student Recreation Facility.
  • Support an environment that encourages, values, and delivers outstanding customer service.
  • Cleanliness of fitness equipment
  • Check and maintain spray bottles filled throughout the facilities
  • Check and replace hand sanitizers
  • Keep work out areas clean and free from hazards
  • Check out equipment. And inform Manager of damaged returns.
  • Launder items from operations, and all the other programmatic areas in the Dept. Follow procedures for safe
  • maintenance of washers and dryers.
  • Assess any risk issues concerning use of fitness machines by our participants
  • Provide assistance to participants in need of help.
  • Set up and take down equipment in the activity areas.
  • Verify the validity of patron ID cards
  • Insure that participants ID cards are properly stored and returned.
  • Complete the facility count sheet every hour
  • Keep equipment cage clean. Return all equipment to appropriate location.
  • Assist Manager in emergency situation

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a basic working knowledge of cardiovascular machines
  • Must have or be willing to obtain CPR/AED certifications

Manager

Reports to: Coordinator – Operations, Associate Director – Facilities

Positions Supervised: Facility Operations Monitors, Lifeguards, Customer Service Staff, Climbing Center Staff

Basic Function:

The Facility Manager is the responsible and authoritative person for the entire Student Recreation Facility during the absence of Professional Staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for enforcing departmental and university policies and procedures in all matters pertaining to the
  • Student Recreation Facility.
  • Support an environment that encourages, values, and delivers outstanding customer service.
  • Member of the SRF Leadership team, and as such lead committees that assist the administration with topics such as staff training, scheduling, hiring, inventory, equipment, awards, and etc.
  • Responsible for opening, closing, and maintaining the smooth operation of the building. Including constant risk management assessment for all program activities.
  • Display a positive image of the department.
  • Supervise the Facility staff in executing their assigned duties.
  • Assign staff specific duties each hour.
  • Ensure the Facility staff is rotating through the assignments.
  • Assist in staff training.
  • Locking and unlocking various facility doors as needed.
  • Tend to equipment mal-functions, including taking it out of service if deemed necessary.
  • Keep records on daily forms. (i.e. Incident and injury reports, count sheet, inventory log, equipment malfunction forms, etc.)
  • Tend to any emergency situations that arise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification. (or obtain within the first month of employment)
  • Prior work experience in UConn Recreation or similar setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Been a staff member with UConn Recreation for at least 2 semesters. Or at least have two semesters completed by the start of semester of being a Lead.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lifeguard certified, or willingness to obtain certification within the year
  • Flexibility in the schedule to allow to sub when necessary
  • Willingness to work Opening and Closing shifts
  • Work a minimum on 10 hours

Lifeguard

Reports to: Facility Operations Managers, Coordinator – Operations

Basic Function: Lifeguards are responsible for safety and accident prevention of all activities in the pool area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for enforcing departmental and university policies and procedures in all matters pertaining to the
  • Student Recreation Facility.
  • Support an environment that encourages, values, and delivers outstanding customer service.
  • Monitor Brundage Pool for any risks to our participants.
  • Enforce State Health laws with regards of pool usage- including rinsing off prior to entering the pool and wearing a bathing suit.
  • Uphold policies of the pool and the principles of the American Red Cross Lifeguard.
  • Keep an hourly count of participants in the pool.
  • Implement circle swim if a lane has more than two swimmers.
  • Rinse and organize kickboard/pull buoys storage unit as needed.
  • Keep pool area clean of debris.
  • Check water levels/temperature and test water chemicals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Lifeguard certified
  • First Aid, CPR and AED for professional rescuer certified
