Reports to: Intramural Managers, Intramural Senior Managers, Intern – Intramurals, Coordinator – Intramurals and Tournaments, Assistant Director – Intramurals and Tournaments

Basic Function:

Conducts intramural and special event contests in accordance with Federation, NIRSA, UConn Recreation and NCAA rules and regulations while demonstrating fairness and impartiality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for enforcing departmental and university policies and procedures in all matters pertaining to UConn Recreation.
  • Support an environment that encourages, values, and delivers outstanding customer service.
  • Officiate and scorekeep intramural events such as, basketball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, etc.
  • Manage participants by ensuring their safety and communicating throughout each contest.
  • Set-up and clean up playing areas before and after each shift.
  • Attend all necessary training clinics.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the Intramural Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • No previous officiating experience or sports knowledge required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous officiating experience.
  • Approachable with a willingness to learn.

Manager

Reports to: Coordinator – Operations, Associate Director – Facilities

Positions Supervised: Facility Operations Monitors, Lifeguards, Customer Service Staff, Climbing Center Staff

Basic Function:

The Facility Manager is the responsible and authoritative person for the entire Student Recreation Facility during the absence of Professional Staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for enforcing departmental and university policies and procedures in all matters pertaining to the
  • Student Recreation Facility.
  • Support an environment that encourages, values, and delivers outstanding customer service.
  • Member of the SRF Leadership team, and as such lead committees that assist the administration with topics such as staff training, scheduling, hiring, inventory, equipment, awards, and etc.
  • Responsible for opening, closing, and maintaining the smooth operation of the building. Including constant risk management assessment for all program activities.
  • Display a positive image of the department.
  • Supervise the Facility staff in executing their assigned duties.
  • Assign staff specific duties each hour.
  • Ensure the Facility staff is rotating through the assignments.
  • Assist in staff training.
  • Locking and unlocking various facility doors as needed.
  • Tend to equipment mal-functions, including taking it out of service if deemed necessary.
  • Keep records on daily forms. (i.e. Incident and injury reports, count sheet, inventory log, equipment malfunction forms, etc.)
  • Tend to any emergency situations that arise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification. (or obtain within the first month of employment)
  • Prior work experience in UConn Recreation or similar setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Been a staff member with UConn Recreation for at least 2 semesters. Or at least have two semesters completed by the start of semester of being a Lead.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lifeguard certified, or willingness to obtain certification within the year
  • Flexibility in the schedule to allow to sub when necessary
  • Willingness to work Opening and Closing shifts
  • Work a minimum on 10 hours

Manager

Reports to: Intramural Senior Manager, Intern – Intramurals , Coordinator – Intramurals and Tournaments, Assistant Director – Intramurals and Tournament

Positions Directly Supervised: Student Officials

Basic Function:

Responsible for the daily operations of the intramural sports and tournaments at the game sites by providing guidance and leadership to student officials and participants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for enforcing departmental and university policies and procedures in all matters pertaining to UConn Recreation.
  • Support an environment that encourages, values, and delivers outstanding customer service.
  • Provide participants with the most positive experience possible by addressing concerns, rule interpretations, and protests during intramural games and events.
  • Provide leadership and management of intramural programming by supervising student officials and participants during each game.
  • Educate student officials by assisting with officiating clinics and providing on-site evaluations during each shift.
  • Ensure safety and fairness of all intramural games and events.
  • Complete all necessary forms each shift.
  • Provide first aid care to injured participants.
  • Attend leadership trainings and manager staff meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the Intramural Coordinator, Intern or Senior Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as an Intramural employee with UConn Recreation.
  • Obtain and maintain CPR/AED and first aid certifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Officiating certification
