NIRSA Regional Basketball Tournament – COVID-19 Safety Guidelines

Based on recommendations by the American College Health Association (ACHA) the NIRSA Regional Basketball Tournament will use the following guidelines during the tournament for all players, coaches, staff, volunteers, officials, and spectators.

  • Athletes must provide original and complete CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record card (digital photos are acceptable) verifying 2 weeks after final dose

  • OR proof of a negative (nucleic acid RT-PCR) test result from a test taken within 72 hours of tournament check-in

    • NIRSA and the tournament host (UConn) will not be providing or paying for tests
      • Players should consult with their university/college student health service department for vaccination sites and local testing locations
  • Athletes must follow all applicable UConn campus COVID-19 health guidelines including the wearing of masks at all times indoors, including during tournament play
  • Athletes must complete a daily health pledge/screen at the tournament including:
    • Have not tested positive or been exposed to anyone testing positive in last 14 days;
    • Have not experienced symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 48 hours (e.g., a fever of 100.4F or higher, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking muscle pain/achiness, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, nasal congestion, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue or any other symptoms associated with COVID-19 identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
    • Have not traveled to any international territory identified by federal or applicable state or local governments as being subject to travel or quarantine advisories due to COVID-19 in the past 14 days
  • Participants, officials, staff, volunteers and spectators should wear masks during use of all mass transit (airplanes/airports, buses, trams, etc.) traveling to the tournament
  • In order to protect the health and safety of all participants and staff, any deviation from the required steps and health behaviors will result in immediate removal from the competition and the venue
  • Any individual who is ill with symptoms consistent with or suggestive of COVID-19 at the time of the event should not come to the venue or attempt to participate in the event
  • Inform appropriate personnel at your university/college as needed of your team’s traveling party (members), dates and method of travel, and safety precautions undertaken to maximize the health & wellbeing of participants and attendees

Note: Medical personnel (athletic trainers) on site for the events do not have capability for case investigation or contract tracing
