Class Descriptions

50/50

50/50 incorporates both cardio- and strength-based moves to create a well-rounded workout.  Using an array of equipment, our instructors deliver challenging classes geared at improving endurance, muscular strength, and cardiovascular fitness.  If you’re looking to add variety to your workout routine, this is the class for you.

Barre

Barre is a total body sculpting workout that is a fusion of yoga, Pilates, strength training and ballet. Classes are low impact, emphasizing the toning of all major muscle groups and are set to fun and motivating music.  Try out this brand new class at UConn Rec!

CORE (30)

This 30-minute class focuses on strengthening and stabilizing all core muscles, including abdominals, obliques, lower back, and hips.  Class designs are comprised of wide variety of exercises and intensities. All fitness levels are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Dance Fit

Dance Fit combines Latin and international, pop and hip-hop music with easy to follow and energizing dance moves to keep you moving and having fun.  Routines incorporate fast and slow rhythms, basic dance footwork, and lots of energy with each instructor’s own personal twist.

HIIT

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a cardio-based class that alternates between intervals of intense activity and recovery periods.  Workouts incorporate both aerobic and anaerobic moves that are sure to have you working outside your comfort zone.

HIIT (30)

Same class as HIIT, just shorter in duration. Kickboxing

Kickboxing is a cardio-intensive class that features both aerobic and anaerobic components to increase muscular strength, cardiovascular fitness, coordination, and balance.  Workouts are fast-paced and geared towards keeping you in motion. This is a great addition to any fitness regimen.

Pilates

Pilates is a bodyweight-based class focused on strengthening and aligning your entire body while also promoting flexibility and posture.  Classes integrate progressions through each muscle group while keeping in touch with breathing and core stability. Come by for a soothing yet sweaty workout geared at increasing muscular strength and endurance, coordination, flexibility, and stamina.

Spin

SPINNING®, or indoor cycling, is a fun yet intense cardio-based class that takes place on specialized Spinner bikes.  Riders are challenged both mentally and physically as they work through a variety of class profiles including hills, flats, sprints, jumps, intervals, and more alongside fantastic playlists.  Classes are 45- to 50-minutes in length and are suited for all fitness levels.

Spin (45)

Same class as SPINNING®, or indoor cycling, just 45 minutes in duration (but no less fun or intense!  Riders are challenged both mentally and physically as they work through a variety of class profiles including hills, flats, sprints, jumps, intervals, and more alongside fantastic playlists.  Classes are  suited for all fitness levels.

Spin & Core (75)

This 75-minute combo class consists of a 45-minute SPINNING® ride followed by 30 minutes of core training.  Core routines are aimed at strengthening and stabilizing all core muscles, including abdominals, obliques, lower back, and hips.

Spin & Strength (75)

This 75-minute combo class consists of a 45-minute SPINNING® ride followed by 30 minutes of strength training.  Strength routines are mainly comprised of upper-body and core exercises, incorporating a wide variety of equipment to deliver workouts aimed at improving muscular endurance and bone strength.

Spin & Stretch (75)

This 75-minute combo class consists of a 45-minute SPINNING® ride followed by 30 minutes of active stretching.  All primary muscle groups surrounding the hips, hamstrings, and upper back will be targeted, reducing tension throughout the body and improving flexibility.

Step

Step is an energizing, cardio-based workout using a height adjustable step and simple movements on, over, and around the step.  Get your heat rate up in this fun and energizing new class!

Strength Training

This class incorporates a wide variety of exercises and equipment to strengthen your muscles, increase muscular endurance, and enhance bone strength.  All fitness levels are welcome and encouraged to attend; sign up for a total body workout!

Yoga – All Levels Yoga

All Levels Yoga is designed for all participants, both new and advanced.  Classes include breathing, postures, and meditation intended to improve mindset, flexibility, alignment, and strength.

Yoga – Flow Yoga

Flow Yoga synchronizes posture with breathing through fluid motion in and out of various poses.  You will develop full awareness of your movement patterns as you flow through different postures.  All are encouraged to move at their own pace through this meditation in motion.

Yoga-Gentle

Gentle Yoga is a slow-paced, relaxing practice that will include a variety of postures, breathing, and meditation techniques.  This class is a perfect way to reset and refocus, concentrating on physical health and mental well-being.

Yoga-Power

Power Yoga practices the synchronization of breathing and movement between postures while building stamina and endurance.  Classes are a relaxing way to enhance flexibility and muscular strength through a balanced workout.

Flexibility & Recovery

This class will use active recovery such as foam rolling and various stretching techniques to reduce muscle soreness and increase muscle flexibility. This class will also concentrate on stability and balance work to strengthen muscles to help prevent injury. This class is essential for those looking to train smarter, perform better and recover faster.

Foam Rolling

This 30-minute class uses foam rolling as a recovery technique to reduce muscle soreness and prevent future injury. This class is essential for those looking to train smarter, perform better, and recover faster.

HardCORE

This 30-minute class focuses on strengthening and stabilizing all of the muscles that make up your core – abdominals, lower back, and obliques. This class is for all fitness levels and will include a large variety of exercises to work your entire core.

HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training

HIIT the ground running with our high intensity interval training class. This intense, cardio-based class will dynamically test your strength and endurance while challenging you mentally and physically.

Kickboxing

Kickboxing mixes aerobic and anaerobic elements, which incorporate the use of your fists, elbows, feet and knees. This intense cardiovascular program will transition you from a gradual warm-up to an intense high intensity workout that will keep your heart rate high and end with a cool down.

Pilates

Using only your own body weight and gravity, Pilates will strengthen your entire body. Classes will focus on integrating all muscles, rather than exercising each body part separately. Focusing on strength and flexibility as a whole you’ll achieve better alignment and teach your body to work more efficiently.

SPINNING®

SPINNING® is a fun and intense workout that takes place on specialized Spinner® bikes. Group cycling is a great physical and mental workout that is appropriate for beginners as well as seasoned riders. Our staff of experienced and trained instructors will motivate and lead you through each ride.

This 90-minute combo class couples an intense 50-minute SPINNING® ride with 30 minutes of core exercises using all of your own bodyweight! This class will leave you feeling great as you increase your cardiovascular endurance and core strength.

Spin Pilates

Spin Pilates is a 90-minute combo class that couples an intense SPINNING® workout with total-body Pilates. Classes being with a 50-minute ride and finish with a 30-minute Pilates routine. Spin Pilates will increase your cardiovascular fitness as well as muscle control and body alignment.

Spin & Strength

Spin & Strength is a 90-minute combo class that couples an intense SPINNING® workout with body strengthening exercises for a complete workout. Classes being with a 50-minute ride and finish with 30 minutes of muscle-strengthening exercises with a variety of fitness equipment. These classes will improve muscle definition in all major muscle groups. With the combo of cardio and strength you are sure to walk away feeling great!

X-Fit

X-Fit is an intense, functional training based workout that will keep your body guessing so you never reach those physiological plateaus. Using an array of equipment our instructors will develop unique and challenging rounds of workouts where your personal goal is to consistently improve upon previous rounds. In this class you will need to channel your inner athlete and face your toughest opponent… YOURSELF.

Yoga - All Levels Yoga

This class is perfect for the new student yet will still challenge the intermediate student. All levels yoga includes breathing, postures and meditation to create strength, openness and flexibility. You will leave feeling fantastic!

Yoga - Flow Yoga

This class focuses on the Vinyasa flow style, which synchronizes postures with breath, and focuses on the fluid movement in and out of the postures. There is a strong focus on the correct alignment of each asana, helping students gain a greater understanding of how to connect more deeply with their bodies through the practice. The class is a unique blend of Ashtanga Vinyasa and Iyengar Yoga, and students are encouraged to move at their own pace.

ZUMBA

Ditch the workout and join the party! Zumba is a dance aerobics class that combines Latin-inspired rhythms along with pop music to create a fun and energizing workout for all fitness levels.
