Group Fitness Class Descriptions

Mind Body Classes

Barre
Barre is a total body sculpting workout that is a fusion of yoga, Pilates, strength training and ballet. Classes are low impact, emphasizing the toning of all major muscle groups and are set to fun and motivating music.

Barre Pilates
Similar to Barre, Barre Pilates has a Pilates focus, concentrating on the functional approach of Mat Pilates. An overall blend of barre, yoga, Pilates, and strength training, expect a low-impact, muscular-endurance focused workout set to fun and motivating music.

All Levels Yoga
All Levels Yoga is designed for all participants, both new and advanced. Classes include breathing, postures, and meditation intended to improve mindset, flexibility, alignment, and strength.

Flow Yoga
Flow Yoga synchronizes posture with breathing through fluid motion in and out of various poses. You will develop full awareness of your movement patterns as you flow through different postures. All are encouraged to move at their own pace through this meditation in motion.

Gentle Yoga
Gentle Yoga is a slow-paced, relaxing practice that will include a variety of postures, breathing, and meditation techniques. This class is a perfect way to reset and refocus, concentrating on physical health and mental well-being.

Power Yoga
Expand your practice with this dynamic, challenging flow. Power Yoga will help increase your flexibility and advance your yoga training by moving at a faster pace through traditional yoga poses. Learn the power of proper alignment, breathing, and strength.

Recovery Yoga
Recovery Yoga is a meeting for those who struggle with addiction, are affected by a loved one's addiction, and/or support the recovery lifestyle. It combines trusted recovery meeting formats with pranayama breathing and vinyasa yoga. The first 45 minutes are yoga practice followed by a 45 minute group discussion around a topic relating to recovery.  UConn Rec is an Ally of the UConn Recovery Community!

Cycling Classes

Spin
SPINNING®, or indoor cycling, is a fun yet intense cardio-based class that takes place on specialized Spinner bikes. Riders are challenged both mentally and physically as they work through a variety of class profiles including hills, flats, sprints, jumps, intervals, and more alongside fantastic playlists. Classes are 45 or 60 minutes in length and are suited for all fitness levels.

Spin & Core (75)
This 75-minute combo class consists of a 45-minute SPINNING® ride followed by 30 minutes of core training. Core routines are aimed at strengthening and stabilizing all core muscles, including abdominals, obliques, lower back, and hips.

Spin & Strength (75)
This 75-minute combo class consists of a 45-minute SPINNING® ride followed by 30 minutes of strength training. Strength routines are mainly comprised of upper-body and core exercises, incorporating a wide variety of equipment to deliver workouts aimed at improving muscular endurance and bone strength.

Pedal & Pulse
Spinning meets Barre in a fusion class like no other! This 75-minute class consists of a 45-minute SPINNING® ride followed by 30 minutes of barre training.  Expect amazing cardio combos on the bike and then flow into elongating strength-based barre training working your core, upper and lower body. This class will fly so fast you will hardly know you are working so hard.

Spin

Spin & Stretch (75)
This 75-minute combo class consists of a 45-minute SPINNING® ride followed by 30 minutes of active stretching.  All primary muscle groups surrounding the hips, hamstrings, and upper back will be targeted, reducing tension throughout the body and improving flexibility.

Strength Classes

50/50
50/50 incorporates both cardio- and strength-based moves to create a well-rounded workout. Using an array of equipment, our instructors deliver challenging classes geared at improving endurance, muscular strength, and cardiovascular fitness. If you’re looking to add variety to your workout routine, this is the class for you.

CORE (30)
This 30-minute class focuses on strengthening and stabilizing all core muscles, including abdominals, obliques, lower back, and hips. Class designs are comprised of wide variety of exercises and intensities. All fitness levels are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Total Body Strength
Total body strength training classes utilize dumbbells, body bars, resistance tubes, BOSU balls, and more. Aim to increase muscular endurance and enhance bone strength. All fitness levels are welcome and encouraged to attend; sign up for a total body workout!

Small Group Training

Queenax Circuit Training
Taking functional, circuit, & small group training to the next level, this station style class is performed on the Queenax™, including cardiovascular and strength training drills. This workout focuses on functional, suspension, muscular endurance, balance, and play!

PACK Group Training
Small group training fitness class that will help improve your body's ability to work efficiently as one unit. This workout will include compound exercises (but not limited to) such as squats, lunges, and/or deadlifts. Pack Small Group Training can also help improve coordination, balance, and body awareness, which in turn will help you avoid unnecessary injuries.

Cardio Classes

Dance Fit
Dance Fit combines Latin and international, pop and hip-hop music with easy to follow and energizing dance moves to keep you moving and having fun. Routines incorporate fast and slow rhythms, basic dance footwork, and lots of energy with each instructor’s own personal twist.

HIIT
High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a cardio-based class that alternates between intervals of intense activity and recovery periods. Workouts incorporate both aerobic and anaerobic moves that are sure to have you working outside your comfort zone.  Classes are 45 minutes in length and are suited for all fitness levels.

HIIT (30)
Same class as HIIT, just shorter in duration. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a cardio-based class that alternates between intervals of intense activity and recovery periods. Workouts incorporate both aerobic and anaerobic moves that are sure to have you working outside your comfort zone.
