About North Rec Park
North Rec Park is UConn’s newly renovated outdoor recreation space—designed to bring Huskies together through play, movement, and community. Managed by UConn Recreation and developed in partnership with UConn Residential Living and Education, and UConn Facilities Operations, this vibrant park is a celebration of wellness, connection, and campus life.
What You'll Find at North Rec Park
- Six Pickleball Courts – Fun for all skill levels. Grab a paddle and join the fastest-growing sport in the country.
- Two Full Basketball Courts – Perfect for pickup games, practice, or just shooting around with friends.
- Multipurpose Hardscape Surface – A flexible space for fitness, games, or spontaneous recreation.
- One-Acre Grass Field – Ideal for pickup sports, casual hangouts, or open-air relaxation.
- 1/6 Mile Walking/Jogging Track – A smooth gravel loop for walking, jogging, or running.
- OOzeball - A UConn tradition for over 40 Years! North Rec Park is home to the biggest, best, muddiest volleyball tournament every April.

The North Rec Park Project
What began as a shared vision has become a vibrant new destination for recreation, connection, and campus life. Thanks to investments and partnership between UConn Recreation, Campus Housing, and Facilities Operations, North Rec Park has been transformed into a safer, brighter, and more welcoming space for the UConn community.
Transformation began in spring 2025, and a lot has changed. Basketball courts were relocated and renovated, drainage was improved, and overgrowth was cleared to bring more visibility and sunlight into the park. A new walking and jogging path now winds around the field space, while a mural program has added color, creativity, and new life to the old handball court walls.
Momentum continued over summer 2026 with the conversion of the former tennis courts into six new pickleball courts. New fencing, lighting, signage, and safety improvements have made the park easier to access and enjoy. The park also received an official address at 100 North Loop Road, making this campus destination easier to find.
North Rec Park is something we are truly proud of. It is the result of a great deal of planning, collaboration, and hard work by teams across the University. Most importantly, it is a place built for the UConn community to move, play, connect, and enjoy together!

Reservation Policy
North Rec Park is dedicated to open play and spontaneous recreation for all UConn students, faculty, and staff. To maintain accessibility and encourage inclusive use, the park does not accept external reservations or scheduled events. All facilities within the park—including courts, fields, and tracks—are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We invite the campus community to enjoy the space freely and respectfully, ensuring it remains a welcoming environment for everyone.
Park Use & Safety Policies
General Park Policies
- We invite the campus community to enjoy North Rec Park freely and respectfully, ensuring it remains a welcoming environment for everyone.
- Courts, fields, and track are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Organized sports or events must be approved by UConn Recreation.
- All users must act in a respectful and safety-conscious manner.
- No profanity, disruptive conduct, or violent behavior.
- Unauthorized vehicles, bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and rollerblades
are prohibited. - No smoking, vaping, alcohol, or illegal drug use.
- Pets and emotional support animals are not permitted. Service animals only.
- Keep areas clean. Dispose of all waste properly.
- Users must wear appropriate footwear and attire for all activities.
No cleats allowed. - During busy times, limit play to 30 minutes or one game when others
are waiting. - Use of equipment and facilities is at your own risk. UConn Recreation
is not liable for personal injuries resulting from misuse or unsafe behavior. - Violations may result in disciplinary action.
Running Track
- Designated for walking, jogging, and running only.
- Motorized vehicles, bicycles, and skateboards are prohibited.
- Users should run in the designated direction and be mindful of others on the track.
Grass Field
- Open for informal play and relaxation.
- Avoid damage to turf and report any hazards to UConn Recreation staff.
- Organized sports or events must be approved by UConn Recreation
Basketball Courts
- Courts are intended for recreational use only. Organized team practices or competitive events are not permitted.
- Users should avoid hanging on rims or nets to prevent damage and injury.
- During busy times, limit play to 30 minutes or one game; winners may stay if no new team is waiting.
Pickleball Courts
- Courts are intended for recreational use only. Organized team practices or competitive events are not permitted.
- First-come, first-served drop-in/open play.
- Courts use time limited to 30 minutes or one game when others are waiting.
- Please use paddle racks to hold place in line.
Multipurpose Surface
- May be used for informal play, roller sports, or other approved activities.
- Users must ensure the space is clear and safe before beginning any activity.
- Group activities should not obstruct access to other park areas.
