The UConn Climbing Center is located on the first floor of the Student Recreation Center (SRC). It covers over 5,000 sq. ft. of climbing space that reaches up to 58 feet! There are six top rope belay stations, four auto-belay stations, and a bouldering only area. Use of the Climbing Center is FREE to all SRC members. Get in great shape, challenge yourself regularly with updated climbing routes and enjoy a great time with friends.

All climbers must first register for, attend, and complete a 15 minute Basic Climbing Center Orientation. Completion of the Basic Orientation will allow climbers access to the Climbing Center, as well as the ability to rent equipment provided there, to be used for Bouldering.

Climbers wanting to take their workout to the next level and access our high-walls, will need to register for, attend, and complete our 2-hour Top Rope Orientation. Top Rope Orientations will cover proper rental equipment use, belay skills, climbing partner communication skills, proper use of Auto-belay systems.  Participants must demonstrate competency with all skills to complete orientation and become qualified to use Top Rope equipment & spaces in the Climbing Center.

Climbers must complete Basic Orientation, before they can register for a Top Rope Orientation.

Equipment Policies

Climbing equipment is available for check-out at the Climbing Center free of charge. Present your valid UConn ID to our Climbing Center Staff to check-out the equipment you need.

All Climbing Center equipment must remain in the Climbing Center (see the Adventure Center page to learn more about climbing equipment that may be rented for outside use) and is due back before closing.

Climbers with Basic Access may rent Climbing Shoes, Helmets

Climbers with Top Rope Access may rent Harnesses, Belay Devices with Carabiner, Climbing Shoes, Helmets
