About North Rec Park
Nestled beside North Campus housing, North Rec Park is UConn’s newly renovated outdoor recreation space—designed to bring Huskies together through play, movement, and community. Managed by UConn Recreation and developed in partnership with UConn Residential Living and Education, and UConn Facilities Operations, this vibrant park is a celebration of wellness, connection, and campus life.
What You'll Find at North Rec Park:
- Two Full Basketball Courts – Perfect for pickup games, practice, or just shooting around with friends.
- Six Pickleball Courts – Fast-paced fun for all skill levels. Grab a paddle and join the fastest-growing sport in the country.
- Multipurpose Hardscape Surface – A flexible space for fitness, roller sports, or spontaneous recreation.
- One-Acre Grass Field – Ideal for pickup sports, casual hangouts, or open-air relaxation.
- 1/6 Mile Running Track – A smooth gravel loop for walking, jogging, or sprinting under the open sky.
Whether you're looking to compete, connect, or simply unwind, North Rec Park is your go-to outdoor space—just steps from your residence hall.
Reservation Policy
North Rec Park is dedicated to open play and spontaneous recreation for all UConn students, faculty, and staff. To maintain accessibility and encourage inclusive use, the park does not accept external reservations or scheduled events. All facilities within the park—including courts, fields, and tracks—are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We invite the campus community to enjoy the space freely and respectfully, ensuring it remains a welcoming environment for everyone.
Park Use & Safety Policies
General Park Policies
- Users must wear appropriate footwear and attire for all activities. No cleats allowed.
- Use of equipment and facilities is at your own risk. UConn Recreation is not liable for personal injuries resulting from misuse or unsafe behavior.
- All users are expected to follow posted signage, respect others, and maintain cleanliness by disposing of trash properly.
Running Track
- Designated for walking, jogging, and running only.
- Motorized vehicles, bicycles, and skateboards are prohibited.
- Users should run in the designated direction and be mindful of others on the track.
Grass Field
- Open for informal play and relaxation.
- Avoid damage to turf and report any hazards to UConn Recreation staff.
- Organized sports or events must be approved by UConn Recreation
Basketball Courts
- Courts are intended for recreational use only. Organized team practices or competitive events are not permitted.
- Users should avoid hanging on rims or nets to prevent damage and injury.
- During busy times, limit play to 30 minutes or one game; winners may stay if no new team is waiting.
Pickleball Courts
- Courts are intended for recreational use only. Organized team practices or competitive events are not permitted.
- First-come, first-served drop-in/open play.
- Courts use time limited to 30 minutes or one game when others are waiting.
- Please use paddle racks to hold place in line.
Multipurpose Surface
- May be used for informal play, roller sports, or other approved activities.
- Users must ensure the space is clear and safe before beginning any activity.
- Group activities should not obstruct access to other park areas.
