Banff Mountain Film Festival
Set your sights on adventure each fall as UConn Rec’s Outdoor team hosts a screening of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour. The screening is a compilation of highlights from the award winning films of Canada’s Banff Center Mountain Film Festival. Don’t miss epic stories of remote journeys, ground-breaking expeditions, and cutting-edge adventures told through the eyes of adventurers, authors, photographers, and filmmakers from around the globe!
UConn Rec is the host site for this annual 18-hour Dance Marathon. HuskyTHON is the culmination of an annual fundraising effort for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. The event takes place every February in Greer Field House with thousands of UConn Students participating. In 2018 HuskyTHON set a new fundraising record and broke the million dollar mark by raising $1,021,485.37 for the kids! #FTK
Traditionally held the weekend prior to HuskyTHON, UConn Rec’s team of ZUMBA instructors takes over the Field House with fun and fitness to kick off HuskyTHON week. This 4-hour, non-stop dance party is sure to get your heart pumping for a great cause!
Six Canoes Enter…Only One Finishes Floating! It’s a wild, crazy, wet week in the UConn Rec Pool as crews of four try to sink each other’s battleship. Armed with Buckets, Shields, and Water Cannons each team will do what it takes to stay afloat or be sent to Davy Jones’ Locker.
Sometimes the best offense is a good defense! The rules are the same as normal soccer…except all players are in giant inflatable bubble suits trying to knock down their opponents. Bubble Soccer is a popular 4 on 4 tournament played in the Shenkman Football facility the Friday night of Spring weekend.
Glow Up the Night 5K
Ready, Set, Glow! It is an annual tradition to kickoff Spring Weekend in style on this closed road, certified, and chip timed 5K that takes place just after sunset. This nighttime event takes runners dressed in neon, glow necklaces/glow bracelets, and glow sticks around campus and back to our post-race party on Fairfield Way. All participants receive medals, t-shirts, goodie bags, and items that glow in the dark!
UConn Student Alumni Association, UConn Rec and UConn Alumni team up each year to host this annual Spring Weekend mud volleyball tournament on the fields behind North Campus. OOzeball has been a celebrated tradition for over 35 years at UConn and was previously chosen by Sports Illustrated as the “Best Mud Volleyball” in the country. This all day tourney is a Bucket List event for UConn Students and is on everyone’s “Must Do” list before graduation!
